When I bought my evo8 I honestly was super pumped to keep my 2G and have both. For a while the evo was MUCH more fun, it was plenty reliable, fast, fun, and basic (and the AC worked!). Just remember, the grass is always greener as they say. It wasn't too long before I had HG issues and was just dumping more and more money into it, all in the name of making it faster. Clutch, brakes, tires, it wasn't long before I realized I had just bought a more expensive DSM.
Go with what makes you happy, finance as absolutely little as possible (yes that includes credit cards), and just do what it takes to be happy. If it means rebuilding and rebuilding the dsm then don't give up! If it means fixing it to get it to an acceptable level and then selling it, so be it. If it means simply parting it out and putting all of the money towards an evo, that's cool too
