I've never read anything that says you don't use Moly on the stud threads. You just don't goop it on the bottom. I put just a little about an inch up from the bottom thread and smear it up and down the threads an inch or so. I use very little so as to not get any extra under the headgasket. Then I put them in finger tight, put the head on, put a dab of moly on the nuts and torque to about 10 lb/ft over spec. I've never had a problem even running 25+ lbs of boost for years.
