If you want cams that don't require springs look at the Kelford 272's. But remember, springs wear out, and a higher-mileage car may not be able to handle the 7500rpm revs that a younger car could w/ original springs.
I always always recommend the gsc 5039 springs because they are a) cheap($200) and b) a simple drop-in beehive, no major swappage needed and it would be dandy to do right along with your timing belt job. Then just drop in the new cams and you're good to go with a solid 8000rpm redline. I rev'd my stock bottom-end to 8300 a few times w/o issue on these springs. and I guess c) a little bit of insurance if you miss a shift.
