They didn't stop building them because they were too fast. The rules were for group B was that 200 had to be in production for the car to race. So there wasn't very many cars built. RS200 was another example of a TRUE group b rally car that very many weren't built.
Group B shut down because it was too harsh and the drivers suffered mentally from it. Plus too many people being killed. I think the last straw was when a Lancia went up in flames.
