A friend of mine had a smaller issue before with him, when buying a supposedly in good working order stock shortblock. (this was a while back) Picked it up, and we when we went to dissassemble it, it had a bent rod. Wasn't a huge purchase, but still none the less we were heated about having to find new rods for it.
Also, I was interested in possibly buying the motor out of the car Tom is talking about in his post, but was strongly advised not too, by a few forum members I know. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't.
