Well, that information is true, but somewhat misleading. The 86 ecu doesn't like it when you raise the boost past 13 or 14 psi, if you can even get there. Yes, you can take out the mass air sensor in SOME of the 86's. some cars don't care and might run better, others might run worse. There is a way to use a 1G mass air sensor with the 86 setup.

The 87-89 ecu, when used in conjunction with a 1G mass air sensor or a 1G maf translator allows for very high boost with no fuel cut (much higher than you could ever get with a 12a or 14g). The 86 does have a map sensor, but no AIT sensor. You can try unplugging the mass air sensor, but I'd wait till you have a wideband installed. Your stock boost gauge won't work either I bet.
