An exhaust leak before the turbo causes the turbo to spool slower.

I read the whole thread again, but nowhere did I see: I pressurized my intake system and it held xxLBS of boost for xxxAmount of time.

You need to do this.

I would not recommend upgrading your stock intercooling setup quite yet, stock is actually pretty good, run e85 and you probably can get away with not upgrading it.

build a tester, pressurize the system, the mitusbishi MAS system actually works quite well, and 1G's in general run great with no CEL's the only sensor that goes wrong is the temp sensor, but that causes startup issues, not stalling issues.

I would also run some tests to see if your IAC system is working properly, a properly working IAC system makes your car very very nice.
