Dual fuel pumps in a 2g AWD

I have a 96 Talon AWD, so the fuel sending unit is under the back seat, passenger side. This past weekend Halon and I were going to install dual 255 fuel pumps (I'm switching to e85 and 1600cc injectors), but we discovered the fuel sending unit is a bit different than on a 1g, so we decided to just install a single 255 for now.

The first picture is of the 1g assembly, taken from Halon's thread. The next two are the 2g version, you can see how there isn't a long metal tube to cut off and connect fuel hose to. Has anyone done this in a 2g without spending $$$ on a custom fabricated unit?

I thought about cutting off the end where the pump mounts and welding on a small metal tube to make it look like a 1g setup, think that would work?

My fuel gauge stopped working after the single 255 install, so I'll probably be taking this apart in the next week or two, hopefully by then I'll have a way to install the other pump.
