YOU went into business with him therefore
YOU too are now liable for his past debts. I'm not trying to be a dick, but going the extra mile for the customers he fucked over is what you're going to have to do in order to bring a good name back to the shop. Before you should even attempt to create new customers take care of the old ones first since in return they'll spread the word that things have changed and that alone will bring in the new customers you desire.
