It's been a little while since I've gamed seriously on a PC, but isn't th $90-150 mark on the low end of graphics cards?
As said by a few others, cross reference your TV's resolution and make sure your new video card supports output at that resolution. Don't use a generic av cable (red/white/yellow), but be sure to use s-video or better yet, a HDV connector. There are also two different kinds of HDV connectors too, so watch out for that.
I used to be a big time gamer back in the day and was ranked #32 in the world for Quake 2 CTF and #134 in the world in Quake 3 CTF. I was (and still am) all about the Nvidia cards over the ATI's but that was because Nvidia had better driver support back in the day. I'm sure things have changed by now.
Another thing to check out is Pricewatch.com its similar to newegg but been around longer.
