No, it is meant to keep the engine/transmission from flexing back and forth, improving shifting. The rearend thump you hear is your rear diff bouncing around. Buschur makes replacement bushings to help with this; they are cheap but they are a PITA to install. BR also makes a replacement rear 'mustache bar' (leave the BR jokes out of this one please

) that includes smaller, stiffer bushings. Apparently this also helps put power down too, as most people with it say that the power put down to the ground feels more solid, more precise. Also saves 10 pounds or so.

Well that's the idea with doing *just* the front mount. I had poly mounts on my 2G and with the balance shaft gone and stock cams the car did rattle quite a lot at idle. Doing just the front one I'm hoping to keep the motor from flexing as much when shifting and whatnot, and yet keep my sanity at idle. Then again, I do have 280's in the car so idle is not exactly smooth anyways

I'm really hoping for a happy medium here. If it is too harsh, it will come back out.
