$40k isn't a bad starting wage at all, especially for a 2 year degree. For some general future planning, a $200k house is going to cost you about $2,000/mo including all the expenses (elec, heat, insurance, taxes, mortgage).

Do you know what future potential is in a job like that? I know the medical industry is hurting for people, so the pay is good. If pay is $40k-$60k then you should be in good shape, $60k is a nice salary for only a 2 year degree. You could always get some experience under your belt and go back to school part time and further your degree also.
