They weren't quite that good. A brand new Corvette had 190 horsepower, the Mustang Cobra II had about 165 horsepower. The Dodge Omni was the preferred economy car. People had bell bottoms that covered their shoes. The pet rock was actually a phenomenon. But the first Star Wars came out, which was cool. I still remember standing in line for it at the Miller Hill Mall in Duluth.
Oh, and people still got beat up and shootings occured, but you only heard about the local ones, not every national tragedy that takes place. Remember, we only had three channels back then.
