A PP doesn't usually go bad like that. It is much more likely that it is the disk. For a PP the fingers can get weak and not hold the power or the rivets can come out and it physically starts to fall apart, or the inner surface gets trashed and it slips also. Are the springs on the disk ok? They like to die pretty often and get stuck in there.
