If you are really this new to working on these cars, get a copy of the
DSM service manual cds. They are really nice.
You can seperate the strut from the hub assembly as metioned above or the ball joint. The axles will pop out of the FWD portion of the transmission with a pry-bar. Be sure to remove the two bolts holding driver's side axle support bearing. The transfer case is easy to remove once the down pipe is out, as mentioned above. Just remove the bolts and will easily slip off the intermediate shaft.
