goodluck man and everyone has different luck.
I wouldn't state that so quickly. Because of the training Chris received at Wyotech he can actually keep up here at the shop. It is one of the main reasons he even got the job. Granted I've met UTI and Wyotech trained technicians that aren't qualified to fill tires with air, but some good apples do come out of those programs.
Guys that work their way up from lube tech's can work on cars, but they rarely receive dedicated high-performance training as well as chassis fabrication background training. If you want to get into the performance industry you have to:
1)Start as a shop monkey and work your way along
2)Learn on your own. Ask any of the local dsm'ers, it isn't cheap .
3)Get proper training from a reliable and accredited facility. We have a UTI customer that just landed a job with the US Army NHRA drag team.

If you are dumber than a box of rocks, the school won't make you smart. If you have a good head on your shoulders and you go at the program like a sponge you will absorb a good amount of information. The schooling won't make you smart if you are going out there on your parents money to have a good time.
