I agree with John as a compression/leakdown test will let you know what, if anything, should be repaired or replaced. If you do decide to rebuild it I would also recommend Mitsu components. The cost difference is negligible when it comes to longetivity and reliability. As Steve and Jet said, there are several tips and tricks that are engine specific. If I'm not mistaken several people in the area that have tried it themselves and learned the hard way.
