metal to metal contact? I assume you mean the lip of the rim, contacting the head of the tire machine? Because, most of the industry has switched to hardened rubber heads, for that very reason. We swapped them out at my old job, and Even with the metal head, I never once scratched a rim. It's all on the operator of the machine. You just need to adjust the head on the machine to be spaced from the rim correctly.
