The "preferred" 2.4L block is a g4cs block from an 89-91 sonata. You should be able to find a low mile engine for cheap. The actual build is not much different or more expensive than a 4g63 build.
The biggest difference that I noticed from swapping to a 2.4 was increased driveability. My car was already very streetable but the extra torque made it more enjoyable to drive.
