I would say go with a T28 over the 16g on your car since it's a 2g, and a T28 will bolt right in without changing a thing. As far as having it rebuilt, I'm not sure if that's how it works. I'm pretty sure if you shop at FP, they don't require you to send yours in to be rebuilt, or as a core. You just order and they ship you a new one.
