Incorrect. Automatics use MANY clutches :P

It doesn't sound like a tranny problem to me.. It sounds like your clutch is slipping! 1st gear is much shorter than any other gear so it's less prone to slipping. My car had a bad clutch and it eventually would slip a little in first but it got much worse with longer gears. I.E 4th / 5th were horrible. Also if you didn't get your flywheel resurfaced to a .610 step - the clutch can't properly "grip" the flywheel. Are you sure you don't have oil on the clutch? If your rear main seal is leaking, that could cause a problem like this.
