Not always. If the reapir cost get close to or exceed 75% of the vehicle's value, they will total it.
Most of the time the vehicle gets repaired.
Have your car go through a flood where water reaches center console or dash level will get you totalled 99% of the time.
It does suck about the accident though. But the car definately looks repairable.
