Bronze are preferred due to being a tougher and more forgiving metal (less likely to seize) than stock cast iron guides. They will last longer and not seize as easily as a cast guide would. Cast iron guides work well with stock valves, but will not last long with S/S valves which could cause gawling and seizing.

If you are having your cylinder head reworked, spend the extra $$$ and have them installed. They are not that much more than stock guides.
