Well, it's against the law to sell a car if it's not in your name. I bought the car from someone else and they were out of state, so technically I had to register it in my name before I can resell it. I thought about registering it in Texas 'cause it only takes two weeks to get the title. I really didn't buy the car to sell, sometimes other deals come along though and I just like to keep my options open. I'm gonna be in MN until March of '06 and if I keep the Talon I don't want to get hassled with the out of state plates. Come to think of it, I guess I'm going to get hassled anyway because of the dark tint on the windows.
If you're buying a car from someone, it's a good idea to get a bill of sale regardless. I found one on the DMV site.
http://www.dmv.org/bill-of-sale-form.php Just be sure to get a copy for the buyer and the seller. I also saw on the DMV site where you can tell the state you've sold your vehicle, so you won't be liable if the other party doesn't register it immediately.
