Price of aftermarket parts. I can build a whole Cummins for what a set of performance injectors cost for a 7.3 Powerstroke. Just in the last year the Powerstroke aftermarket has really started to make some headway, but with serious pricetags. The latest rage is to use a dual stage high pressure oil pump to feed the injectors. One of those HPOP kits costs more than $2k. Add a set of $2,800 injectors, $2,500 turbo kit, head studs, good rods, exaust, custom tuning, etc. There are tons of guys with $15k in their powerstrokes and they are just getting to the 600RWHP area with drugs. You can find an old tired 12V P-pump'd Cummins and throw a couple thousand dollars worth of performance parts at it and have a reliable 450+RWHP engine that will run and run and run.
Now the 6.0 Powerstrokes HAUL A$$ with just a couple of bolt-ons. With exaust and some electronics you can make sick horsepower. You just can't get greedy 'cause they will bust head gaskets.
Cummins are just a cheaper and more reliable alternative if you're looking to make some horsepower.
