¿rwd Dsm¿
I'm not really quite sure where to put this, How many of you fellow DSM'ers have thought about switching you car to Just Rear wheel drive?
I've been thinking, I have heard that conquest/starion drivetrain will theoretically "bolt" up... And I'm thinking you'd probably have to turn the motor 90 degrees so you can keep the 4g63t BEAST!! But than what suspension and steering would you use? What Would you guys...AND girls think about this?? |
Re: ¿rwd Dsm¿
it's been done..few videos made too. I have kyle's video. You can just take the front axles out, and seal the case, but you won't really have the strongest anymore, cause all the power will then go to the rear wheels..it get's tail happy, and twitchy, and more parts break.

Re: ¿rwd Dsm¿
Lol, Yea. I've thought about doing it that way but it's wayyy too easy! The whole point of having a dsm is to dump as much money into it as possible!

Re: ¿rwd Dsm¿
You could buy a conquest and have your stupid burnouts and no headaches.

If you really wanted to get hardcore, you could basically put a starquest 4g63 swap in your DSM. www.projectzerog.com That should get you started. |

Re: ¿rwd Dsm¿
Hell since 3 quest people chirped in already I figure I might as well make it 4.
Yay for stock RWD. As for the RWD DSM, I think it's a good idea. However, i'd stick to just that: an IDEA ;) |

Re: ¿rwd Dsm¿
yea, for stock AWD, why make your car slower? less you plan on running sub 10's.... I just go around in circles and smoke the tires...

Re: ¿rwd Dsm¿
If I wanted RWD Id buy a domestic. ;)

Re: ¿rwd Dsm¿
The cars I posted are unibody 1Gs with RWD Powerglides and actually probably the same car. Rau's car is tubed and partially tubed with a 5-speed manual G-Force tranny, slipper clutch, electronic suspension that changes as he goes down the track, a crap load of chassis work done by a high-end chassis fab shop. You could probably drive a car similar to the 1Gs on the road, Brent's can only go straight for a 1/4 mile at a time. Brent ripped apart SlowBoy Racings Pro Outlaw RWD 1G recently to re-do it correctly. The Starion is a better platform to do a RWD 4G63 street car in, the stock rear end went low 9s in Eric Plebani's 4G63 RWD Starion.

I have stock rwd  don't have pics of the rx7 though....

Re: ¿rwd Dsm¿
Yeah, the two pics Shane posted are the same car. Bruce bought it from Jesus who bought it from Bushnuts.
You could do it with alot of parts from Summit. It's just a rear subframe and Ford 9" welded into the stock unibody DSM. Then you need to turn the engine 90 degrees and use an adapter plate, domestic RWD tranny and a custom driveshaft. Cool, but lot's of work and money. I think that one in the pics switched hands for around $20K a few years back, I half thought about buying it. The blue paint job was a HUGE improvement over that ugly-ass yellow paint scheme Bushnuts had. |
