Interior questions..seats, n carpet?

I plan on selling my front seats, and rear bench seat setup. I want to gut the car, and lay down a plain black carpet, from the front, to the trunk..all one piece. Where can I find a roll of black carpeting big enough for this car? I'd lay the old over it, and cut it out, then put it in. Also, how can I mount some black sparco speeds to the stock sliders? anyone ever mount seats before, and how was the height clearance? I wanna be able to fit my head and helmet inside the car too, so I am hoping it will all fit..

P.S. - car is a 1992 eclipse GSX

The big question is how do you want the end result of the carpet to look. Because if you just put a piece of black carpet in it without it being molded its not going to look very good. All the stock carpet is shaped to fit snug in all the tight spots.

If you want it to look decent you might need special tools or a shop that does custom interior to do it.

They do make a special carpet for cars that can be shaped to some degree, but it's probably just easier to take the stock carpet and rip the insulation from the back of it and glue it down.

You can mount Sparcos to the stock sliders, I just did it this year. But it's a bitch, and I ended up drilling new holes through the bottom of the seat, since the side mount holes would take way too much fabrication to make decent brackets for. Also it's tough mounting them with anything but the stock sliders because the seats actually sit over a part of the tranny tunnel, so you can't just bolt them to the floor or you'll be hugging the door panels.

I was thinking of gluing the carpet down, once the wires where all run.

As far as the sliders, how hard is that to make?

I also decided against the sparcos, but to go with corbeau FX1's. I also wanna know what about harnesses? I really wanna make em legal, since I don't see how something safer then stock crappy sliders would be against the rules, unless installed wrong. So, what can I do? Where could you get them legalized?

It really depends upon what "legal" you are talking about.
Right now the stealth has a Momo Start seat in it, which is FIA approved. I also have a 5 point g-force pro-series camlock harness holding me in. I am using custom mounts (chrome moly) with momo sliders. My seat and harness are NHRA approved, but my harness isn't DOT legal.

So, anotherwords, how can you get them legalized? I mean..say you got pulled over for speeding..how can you get it so that you won't also get a second ticket for the seatbelts, even though they are more safe then the originals? I thought there was a way to do this, but you had to carry some paper saying it was inspected n whatnot..

They do make replacement carpet for DSM's in various colors. I think it was in JC Whitney? I want to say it was around $200.

on the carpet jet..you sure it's not to just replace the oem carpet? I want a single piece that runs the length of the interior..no seems..I want clean.

Also, I was looking for CF hoods, and I like the oem look. But, I also sorta liked this other hood. I don't know who makes it or where to find it, but I was hoping I could get help. It's got one vent where the turbo sits, and a smaller one to the passenger side, sorta for the bov/battery area? Who makes it, and where might one find it?

Not that I know of. If the cop gives you a ticket for no seat belt instead of speeding, its cheaper :).
Plus he would be a prick if he saw you in a 5 pointharness. The real problem would be what other equipment violations do you have?

The problem is that the regular carpet is not going to fit the humps and dips well. I think that will look a lot worse than having a seam. Yes the stuff I saw was OEM style.

The hood you saw sounds like the EVO style hood. VIS makes some of the best hoods out there. I have an Invader style that I never got on last year because my car got done so late.

Re: Interior questions..seats, n carpet?

I know it's not an evo or invader style hood. I know that all the honda guys run that style hood, but I am talking of a different kind. I forget what magazine I saw it in, but it had a thin vent right above the turbo, and a second, smaller one on the passenger side for like..the battery er whatever. It doesn't have that chicken mesh either.

Yep, it's important to have a cooling panel for the battery.

I couldn't agree more; batteries get pretty hot when you're living life 10 seconds at a time.

I wasn't sayin something like that smartass. I just stated that that's where the damn vent is..I don't know what it's there for...bov? your mom's fingers? I don't know. But, I am sure it serves it's purpose, like the front one does.

not really it's just a single vent on the middle of the front, and one smaller one..single vents only. not the invader type..

He's talking about the RRE hood.

Re: Interior questions..seats, n carpet?

I was talking about the rre hood. Anyway, no one knows about the harnesses? Is there A place or a website I can visit, and ask why this is? I'd think if you had a small sticker on the windshield or carried some paper saying it was legally inspected, then they can't give you shit for it...

Re: Interior questions..seats, n carpet?

they make 4 pnt harness that are street legal. and Schroth makes a 5pnt that's both street and stip legal. If I heard the salesmen correctly. He wasn't going to sell me my 6pnt sparco's until I mentioned that I'm still retaining my stock seat belts for street use. (which I am)
