Oil Cooler
What is better the Air to Air oil cooler or the water cooler? Im gonna be taking my engine out and was wondering if the Air to Air is better. And where can I get a cheaper nice polished oil cooler to put on my car. Like in the driver side bumper opening.
Thanks, Mike |
Re: Oil Cooler
I can hook you up with lines, fittings, and a b&m polished cooler. Let me know, they usually run less than $200, I don't recall the B&M polished cooler price off the top of my head. (Complete setup back to a 1990 oil cooler housing).
FYI the 1990 oil cooler assembly is around $65ish from what I recall. (cast aluminum piece that bolts to the front case.) They are different from 91-94. |
Re: Oil Cooler
Thats sweet. Do you got any pics of what that looks like? I have a guy with a brand new oil filter housing for $50 i may be getting. Also what are the lines? SS Braided? fuel line? Let me know.
Thanks |
Re: Oil Cooler

Re: Oil Cooler
So is an external cooler "better" then the water cooled?

Re: Oil Cooler
An external air-to-air is safer. The stock water cooled ones have been known to back off and cause engine damage. They are also a point where oil and coolant could mix, if the cooler becomes damaged inside. You have to be careful that they don't come loose, if you have to remove a very tight oil filter. With an external air-to-air, you have to be somewhat mindful of not keeping it too cool, you might not want to stick it in an area of open direct airflow. Too cold of oil is more likely to cause engine damage than a bit too hot of oil. I have heard of some guys only running their external Setrab coolers at road race events and then looping the line and running no cooler for normal street driving. Those guys usually have large coolers with air ducting going to them, so they could over cool.

Re: Oil Cooler
Is it possible to put like a teperature switch on that "shuts off" flow to the cooler? or would a plain oilcooler just work fine.
