Drive shaft bushings
 

so i think my driveshaft bushings are starting to get out of hand, you know the big rubber doughnuts that align the pieces of the driveshafts, or maybe there arent any on a talon/laser, whatever, but they are there on my GVR-4 and are wearing out so i was wondering if you knew of anything thats better than the rubber thats there now. Maybe some poly bushings or something stiffer than stock?

Are you talking about the two big driveshaft carrier bearings?

There's no upgrade for them unless you do a custom driveshaft with only one carrier bearing. You can either do the old window-weld fix from the old skool days. Or replace both of them with new ones, which is a pain in the ass. You have to completely tear down the driveshaft to put them on there. Time consuming, but will solve your problems for a good ten years. I've got an extra 1G driveshaft with pretty good carrier bearings if you're interested, would also work good for an extra so your downtime is short. Don't forget to mark the alignment of each piece in relation to each other if you rebuild, they're balanced as an assembly from the factory.

I assume that the fastest/cheapest place to get the new replacement carrier bearings is from the mitus dealership. y/n (with the 'style discount of course)

on the same note....my lower control arm bushings are completely shot, you can take any of the front two wheels and wiggle them back and forth....no big deal, i have dealth with this on DSMs before...my question is: rather then replacing them with stock rubber bushings from mitsu, can and should I replace them with aftermarket ones.

And the immediate follow-up question: where do I get them? would elite have them in stock?

I would probly go with an aftermarket upgrade if yours are bad, I dont know where you would look for ones in stock, I dont have to worry about suspension bushings, i just got 60,000 miles on mine, so i havent looked into that.

Yesterday I ordered up 2 driveshaft bushings and 2 lower control arm bushings for a grand total of $141 using the dsmstyle discount over at the brooklyn park mitsubishi/mazda. I have seen those driveshaft bushings go as high as $85 online, and they were like 60 at the dealership, woot.

While I was there I made the mental note that the dealership was a hybrid dealership, and I asked the guy at the parts counter about the MAZDASPEED6 (2.3l
turbo, awd, 6spd), he said the last he heard of it, they were down in texas testing it, and they had racked up quite a bit of speeding tickets to date. :)

Yeah, that car has my attention. I can't wait for them to go on sale. Then I can whoop on all the kiddies who buy new ones, thinkin' they've got the fastest car in the world.

I'd start out w/ Transmission shops in the area. Since that's part of the drive line, that would be your place. If for some reason they don't do that, surely they can point you to a place that does.
