door rubbing fender when opened?
it seems as though the alignment of my fender and door is a bit off... the door rubs the fender when i open it very much at all.
SO my question is, do the hinges on the door have ovalized holes so i can adjust the angle of the door or not? how else would i fix this? I dont think I can really adjust the angle of the fender, so it must be the door. thanks in advance! |
Re: door rubbing fender when opened?
The problem is the fender. They bend in very easily if someone leans on them. Put a piece of rubber or cotton over the edge of the door. Then use a screwdriver to pry the fender outwards. That will give you your clearance back. Be careful not to chip the paint on the front edge of the door though.

Re: door rubbing fender when opened?
This is a VERY common problem as DSM's age. The little bracket that holds the fender in place is really thin. Do as JET instructed. If any paint has chipped, clean and touch it up soon to prevent rusting.

Re: door rubbing fender when opened?
wait, so are we saying that the door is not actually adjustable here?

Re: door rubbing fender when opened?
Your door is fine, the problem is your fender.

If you're going to be stubborn like that no one will be willing to help you. Get off your ass and go look at it. Thats the only way to fix it.

Re: door rubbing fender when opened?
It's been happening to my 99 too...Im pretty sure its the actual fender, but I think the door may be contributing to it as well.
