Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
Went back to Moroso tonight for there midnight madness event. (note to self remember never to go on friday nights regardless) and also brought along my new camera mount for the car so I got it on tape for you guys. My racing suit showed up but I didn't have time to burn up the 1/2 tank of pump gas in my car before hand.
Anyrate I only got 2 runs in in 4hrs. And the 2nd one I lost 2 of my damn turbo to exhaust manifold bolts. (didn't tighten them down after I warmed the car up when I replaced the gasket) However I still was able to make 1 decent pass with my clutch stinking pretty badly throught first but felt like it held and I didn't shift into 4th when I should have cause I was used to going through the traps at 9K in 3rd gear so I stayed in 3rd longer then I should have, but still managed a new personal best. Straight 25psi, 93oct, 1/2 gas. 10:08pm R/T - .608 60' - 1.712 330 - 4.985 1/8 - 7.602 mph - 94.80 1000 - 9.820 1/4 - 11.715 mph - 114.81 my honest opinion is there is probably an 11.69 in her but that's about as far as she'll go on 93oct. I was seeing .7 counts of knock for a little bit in each gear but that's still not that much. tomarrow if I'm not to tired I'll post the video and logs. (I have appointments every hour from 8 till 5pm tomarrow) |

WooT! Nice kill!
I can't wait to see the video. Keep at it man! |
Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
Nice run for pump gas. So a new clutch will be in the works then? South Bend can make a disk that will work with your ACT flywheel and 2600lb pressure plate if you like.

Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
I have a quick question though. I was talking with the Tech at Moroso and he asked me what I run, I said mid to low 12's since I'm only running pump gas (that way I didn't have to worry about Tech) But this guy was a stickler and said that if I run faster then a 12.00 that I would get kicked out. (ie: he saw the Cage and Harness's) I said I thought it was 11.49 and faster you have to have a cage, etc. He said Nope that's for only Stock Cars, Any car running faster then 12.00 has to have a Roll Bar, at least 5 point harness's, and Jacket if your car is Modified.
I told him do you mean modified Chassis or what, he replied as soon as you take out a seat, Swap a Motor, etc your car is no longer Stock. He said you can do things like Exhaust, Fuel, in short bolt on's, but that's it. I had him check my Harness's, but didn't say anything about not having a jacket. So now my question is what's the deal is this guy wrong or what? I guess it doesn't really matter since I have the suit anyways (which fit's by the way) I have pictures and I'll put them up shortly for your guy's entertainment. |
Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
Hes an idiot.
A 5 point roll bar is required for 11.99 or 11.49 (pending tracks) and below down to a 10.99 et. After that point, you need a roll cage. That will be good to 8.5's if it is what we would call a "8" point. Our "10" point roll cages are good till 7.50 et's. You also need the harness and other safety equipment. |
Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
I guess it doesn't really matter cause I've been getting through tech, but it would be nice to know that my car and myself are completely legal if I ever wanted to hit up any major event

Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
A 5-point roll bar is fine down to 10.0 with our cars in NHRA. He could kick you out for not having a scattershield at 11.99.

Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
Very simply, an 8-point gets the "halo" or D part of the cage over your head and ties to the floor in the footwell area. You're not going to need all of that though, your cage is fine. The tech is blowing sunshine up your ass.

That camera mount is a great view! Nice run. "11.7..." "No shit!?!" haha What a nice surprise.

The Halo is what makes it a roll cage, before that its a roll bar. From what we have been told, if brians cage is a "5 point" (with passanger side brace bar) it is good to 10.99. If its a full cage, with bars that incase the driver, and has proper D bar braces (which I doubt john did, as we just found out about this), it would be *could* good to 8.50's. Obviously stating that you have the rest of the safety equipment required. (parachute of over 150, scatter shield, sfi approved items, etc etc etc etc). There is also a class break at 9.99 as far as rules are concerned. |

4:11 ROLL CAGE Mandatory in all cars running quicker than 10.99 seconds or faster than 135 mph, or per Class Requirements. Cars with unaltered firewall, floor, and body (from firewall rearward, wheeltubs permitted) running between 10.00 and 10.99, roll bar permitted in place of roll cage, or per Class Requirements. |
Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
That Tech guy must have missunderstood the rules then. Wouldn't be the first time I'm sure.
But so far I've been buying everything that's SFI or FIA Rated. My seats are legal but what ever I'm not even wearing my harness's anyways. They just get me through Tech. I would wear them if I didn't have to start my Log and then put the laptop down on the passenger floorboard. My laptop sucks so I try to keep the files as short as possible. Anyrate again thanks for all the great info, even though there are a lot of fast guys down here none of them seem to ever post. |
Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
Yea, thats the same as the normal NHRA rules. He is good down 10.0, except for the 135mph rule, which they don't seem to enforce much.

Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
I was wrong, it does say it in the book, I was just going with what the inspector told us. He was off, and I haven't had time to look at a rulebook until now.
Cool. Now our "6 point" mild steel roll bar option is good to 10.0 I'll have to change all the crap :(. I'll call NHRA monday morning to confirm, but the rulebook does state that a bar is good to 9.99 or 135mph traps. |
Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
Confirm what? It says it right in the rules there and on NHRA's web page. 5/6 point cages are good to 10.0, this is like common knowledge in the performance world. For NHRA tracks a 5-point will do, for IHRA tracks you need a 6-point.

Re: Back to Moroso tonight 11/11/05
So next time I go, am I supposed to wear my suit? And am I missing anything else?
I will probably be running Race gas next time I go. (however I have to take my turbo and manifold off, find 2 bolts for my manifold, take the turbo apart and then install the exhaust side to the manifold, and reassemble. Oh the fun of having the oil feed at the top of the turbo, gets in the way of all sized wrench's. It'll probably be a few weeks till I go back. (sometime in december I'm guessing) |
