Boost leak test and...
I was over at slowbubblecar's house and we boost leak tested my car. While testing my guage never climbed abover 0 just sat there. What could this mean?
|
Re: Boost leak test and...
That means you have a huge leak that the compressor couldn't overcome. Or your guage is broke.

Re: Boost leak test and...
It means you'll probably get banned in five days.

Re: Boost leak test and...
His guage goes to 15psi when he drives it but doesn't do anything with the tester on it. I used the air compressor and couldn't even build 1 pound. It was putting out a lot of air. I couldn't hear a leak or anything after pulling the air chuck off. Could the turbo be his leak? I had this problem a long time ago with a car I parted out and I never figured it out on that either. I was wondering how he could build 15psi when the compressor couldn't even build one.

Re: Boost leak test and...
Something is wrong with the tester.

Re: Boost leak test and...
It worked last time I used it

Re: Boost leak test and...
If this car still has a stock intercooler check the inlet and outlet of the intercooler. They get little holes in there and leak like hell.
|
Re: Boost leak test and...
It has a stock intercooler. I'll check those today. Wouldn't that make a sound though?
Also super4x4duty, It was stated in RK's bitch thread that the technical forums should be taken seriously as most the others you can kid around with; so I would appreciate only serious answers when it refers to a problem with my car. Thanks |
Re: Boost leak test and...
Next time the tester is on, try removing a vac source that should be seeing pressure. That will tell you if the system is seeing any pressure. You could always bypass the turbo all together and run the test through an IC pipe, but thet might be difficult with the stock mesh hose.

Re: Boost leak test and...
I am sure the intercooler isn't the reason. I would have heard a leak there and it most likely would have needed to build boost to get there.

Re: Boost leak test and...
A lot of times the leak is so big that you don't hear anything. It was like that when Shane blew his end tank apart.

Re: Boost leak test and...
Soooo. What do i need then? New ic?

Re: Boost leak test and...
No look for leaks! Take a bottle of sopy water and spray it all over anywhere there is an intersection while someone else pressurizes the system. Its a pretty simple process I dont know how anyone is supposed to guide you through it any easier unless they do it for you...

Re: Boost leak test and...
I know what you are talking about. So on all my couplers test this? Sounds good thanks.

Re: Boost leak test and...
OK the boost leak tester isnt to test your gauge just for listening to find your leak a boost leak tester dosent build pressure in the vacuum lines just the turbo piping thats why it dosent work

Try putting the tester on your t-body elbow. Then you can narrow down the spots at where it could be leaking from. |

Anyway thanks for all the help. I'll keep trying different things. The car runs fine so I don't know whats up. I just want to know why thats wrong. |
Re: Boost leak test and...
Ok i explained that a little wrong it depends on what line your gauge is hooked up to
if its on the fpr line or the solenoid on the fire wall which is 12v an takes power to turn it on so if you didnt have the key on that could be why or the engine might have to be started which you cant do with a boost leak tester on the car. And i belive that the vacuum ports on the TB are after the TB plate which means they wouldnt see full boost or vacuum unless the TB is open. An I dont have all the vacuum lines on my car i pulled them all except the ones i needed an i got rid of all the solenoids if ya didnt know you can do that it gets rid of the extra cludder an just something extra to go wrong. |
