Auto Start Systems / Keyless Entry, Alarm Maybe.

Anyone have an Autostart system on any of their cars that is not from the factory?

I am looking for a simple Autostart for Jana's car (01 Prizim) and possibly an Alarm/Keyless Entry/Auto Start Unit for the Jeep.

I was looking at the Valet setup for $159 & $199 (1 or 2 remotes, included install, just autostart) at Ultimate Electronics and also the $199 (better range, install extra, 1 remote I think) Viper setup at Best Buy.

More concerned with a nice Autostart setup. Good range with a strong signal to get through a standard building to the parking lot where the car is about 2-3 hundred feet away.

The viper at BB is two remotes. Also don't know who you talked to but the install is included in the unit at BB, just some extra parts and labor may be required. The prizm shouldn't require anything, but the Jeep may require something extra to make the locks and factory alarm work.

One thing to keep in mind that officially Ultimate is bankrupt. If they were to close shop two weeks after you have one installed, you would be out of your warranty and any other coverage. Not that I am trying to push BB but just keep that in mind.

I have used a handful of different units and really like the Viper, but the Valet is very similar as they are both made by Directed Electronics.

The range of the unit is really going to depend on where it is used. Some can go quite awhile if you are in field with no obstructions. The more you add around the area(concrete, cellular towers, electronics, etc) the less range you are going to have. Although with only 2-3 hundred feet away you should be fine with most units in the 200 range.

If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know.

Are there any other units out there that would be suggested. Mayeb to buy online or at any other local retail outlets.

IMHO Anything from Directed Electronics (DEI) is the way to go. You could always get something cheap from Target/Wal Mart/Sam's Club for about 50 bucks, but those don't always work the best or for a long enough time.

I agree with Alpine. You should go with a DEI unit. Every unit I ever put in my cars was a DEI unit. The great thing about them is that the relay is built out side of the brain. This will save you headaches down the road. Note stay away from clifford even though they are own by DEI. Shoot just stay with Viper, Python, Valet, or Hornet. You should be safe. If you want a good install and trust. I would go to Matts store since you delt with him before in the past and he knows who you are. The part about install is who to trust. Another guy you want to try is John at Hand Command. He was a Circuit City installer about the sametime I was. Great guy and did a couple of install for me in the past. Hopes this helps Alan.

I think both Hand Command and The Store where Matt works is a distance aways for me to leave a car for half a day and deal with work.

Astroflex has a really good remote start/keyless entry too. They have a rock solid 1400+ ft range and you can change the runtimes, cold start temp, etc with the remote(if you even care). They have a lifetime warranty as well.

If you go with the Valet system, you can buy them online for around $70 and just have somebody local install it.They go in pretty easy, so you could probaly save a little cash.

I would recommend Compustar. They have some of the newest technology and win awards all the time for their products. They also have spread spectrum technology for if you are looking at the furthest in 2 way communication offered in auto security.

I got a $700 system off of ebay a few years ago for like $250. Ebay has good deals because there is a lot of mark up on these items.

Except for the fact that Firsttech(the company behind compustar), will not warranty any of their products purchased off of Ebay. I got mine through a local reseller for about 200.

But yes, they are a good unit also.

Will anybody warranty their products purchased off of ebay?

I don't know, I guess I took a chance at buying it, but I've been very happy so far. A good product doesn't need a warranty :-)

I have a Hornett alarm system and auto start. I can't give you advice on what to get but I sure as hell can give you advice on what not to get. I can't use the keyless entry or the auto start unless I am at the right angle and I can't be to far away. Auto start won't turn on from inside my house, being as it's to far away. If I use auto start, I have to leave it unlocked other wise the alarm goes off every 5 minutes as an annoying reminder that its running. And the alarm is sensitive as all hell... It goes off all the time and I can't hardly figure out why. Hornett sucks.

I've got a compustar on my nissan 240sx, and it works really well. it has adjustable sensitivity, remote start, keyless entry, 2 remotes, 3/4 mile range, turbo timer. I got it from mach 1 for about $530 with a lifetime warranty.
