Lowering base timing, increase boost?

What is the power gain, loss, or does it staty even when you do this? My friend did it to his car to increase the boost safely. I know you lower timing, you lose power, but the more boost will make up for it. I just dont know if you come out even, or boost adds more power then the timing. If its even, would it make sense to increase base timing, lower boost, so you have the same power, but quicker spool up time? :D

Boost makes a lot more power than timing. The only problem is when you are out of boost, by lowering the base timing everywhere, you lose power and gas mileage at part throttle.
