Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
Hey, wondering if anyone knows how to rig a fuel pump cut-off switch..For security purposes. I got a Walbro so i'll be going into it this winter.
thanks, scott a. |
Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
Are you talking something as simple as an inline switch built into your fuel pump power supply?

Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
Yeah but what will I need and what do I have to do..? I got a switch but what else will I need?

Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
Get a toggle switch and hook it up in line somewhere in the wire.
1. Buy Toggle switch 2. Cut Wire (while not drawing power) where you want switch to go. 3. Strip cut ends 4. connect ends to toggle switch. 5. Flip switch depending on current desire for power to Fuel Pump. Build Cost : About $7 for a good switch. |
Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
I would use a relay and a switch. The fuel pump uses alot of power and could burn out the switch.

Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
Why would you want to make a fuel switch? I mean, its not like we drive a honda or anything. No one is gonna attempt to steal DSM's

Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
Dsm's are very easy to steal, installing a switch to cut power to the fuel pump will only piss off the theif. Then instead of stealing the entire car, they strip it where it sits :).

Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
Hmm... Just put a Club on your steering wheel. When the thieves see that thing, they wont even attempt to break into your car! I think its better than a fuel switch, because they'll probably break in, find out that there is a switch, get pissed off, and then trash your car. :P

Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
Fine, I wont go James Bond then.
A club..yes...I think I would make fun of myself if I was putting a club on my steering wheel. guess I was just looking for a n excuse to have a switch. |
Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
I'd rather have my car trashed than stolen. A nice way to cut power to the car (via battery or fuel) so it can't be driven off is a way to at least frustrate a potential theif to move on.

Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
"The Club" is a joke.Any half-way intelligent thief can get around it in less than a minute.A well placed kill switch will stop just about any thief, unless they have a tow truck of course.1Gs absolutely need some sort of antitheft device, IMO they are the easiest vehicle to steal period.I can have the ignition cylinder broken out, and the car running in less than 30 secs, no exageration

Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
I wouldnt mess with the fuel system for security reasons, imagine doing a hard 3rd gear pull, and your buddy flips the switch, not pretty....
In stead, why dont you get a window sticker saying: "WARNING:ACTIVE DEFENSE SYSTEM DEPLOYED - SERIOUS INJURY AND DEATH WILL COMMENSE IF BREAK-IN OCCURS" |
Re: Fuel Pump Cut-Off Switch
I agree. I locked my keys in the car while it was running in my driveway... and yep my spare key was in the car too! I pryed the door open and coat hangered the power window down. I dunno, those cars are just easy to get into...
