RPM/Tach/Shift light problems, help!

Alright, so I need either a tach or a shift light to go racing this weekend. My gauges are jacked and the tach basically stopped working, so I could try and get another cluster by tomorrow. However, I just got a shift light...

DSMlink still reads RPM, but I cannot get a tach signal for the shift light! I tried the white wire from my 1G CAS and also pin 58 on the ECU, niether of which work!

I have checked the light on another car and it does work, what am I doing wrong?

Does your car have an MSD?

Nope, Coil on plug but stock ignition otherwise. 1G CAS on a 1G head, no crank position sensor anymore, signal comes from CAS.

did you ever figure this out? Does the shift light signal normally get it's signal from the crank position sensor? Or, is it the white wire on the 1g CAS?

Re: RPM/Tach/Shift light problems, help!

I just put in my shift light yesterday and i tested it at 2k and it was equal with the tach. Then i set it to 7k and the stock tach would say 6800rpm. I used pin 21 from the ecu, which i believe is the crank angle sensor. I got that info from vfaq.
My question here is, which one is right?

The shift light, the stock tach is slow. I used to log 7600 rpm and my tach only read 7100 back when I used the stock ECU.

Thx steve, i appreciate the help.

So, where did you all attach the wires for your shift light? I am doing pin 21 off the ecu's big plug, 4th in, bottom row. It looks like it's a black wire, but I thought that was ground?

lol, i just got done redoing it, yeah it is a black wire and it sounds like you have the right one. my tach light had 3 wires, tach, power, ground.
Hope that helps, i love my shift light its the bomb!

that's the same as mine. u get it from summit? mine's adjustable, so i didn't spend like 200 for all the pills, and shit. what did u run the power wire off of?

Ok, now I am facing wiring isues, who knew.

I have the green wire for my light attached to the black wire (pin 21 on back of large plug). The ground is behind the driver's side kick panel, and the power I ran off of the blue/white wire from the cigarette lighter. Yet, the light doesn't work at all. Any ideas?

Really? strange, hmm, did u check the fuse for the cigarette lighter? Recheck connections, then i don't know. kinda hard on the net. Good luck, hopefully its the fuse.

i'm missing the fuse cover for the ick panel thingy, so i really don't know what fuze it could be.

all the fuses down by that panel look good. I can turn the key to on, and the light will flicker, but it won't turn on when it hit's the pre-set rpm (3k for now). I re-did the wire running to the pin 21 on the ecu, with a better connector, but still, nothing. power is still connected to that cigarette lighter wire (blue/white) and the ground is still off that bolt behind the driver's lower kick panel.

Double check your ground and quit using crap connectors; solder my friend, solder!

Re: RPM/Tach/Shift light problems, help!

Actually, i figured out the issue last night. The company who made the light didn't put the sticker you adjust the rpm to correctly on it, so 3k actually means like 5.5k. Whatever, I guess you can't expect too much from some company like that. I'll just do a rev-adjust session someday.
