Hurricane Wilma

Well for thefirst time we'll be leaving florida and heading North. The mayor (automated) called and left a message at the house yesterday saying we maybe asked to leave and that we should prepare for it.

I headed into the office today to find out what was going on. And the entire mangament team is going back to Texas till it's over with and the power is back on.

They say it's supposed to hit on Saturday, and be a stronger version of Hurricane Irene that hit here last year that caused all the damage.

So Jenny and I are packing up the house and heading up to South Carolina tonight. Unfortunetly the Car is going to have to remain behind. I'm going to put it up on Jack Stands to raise it off the ground in case of Flooding. Good news is the way it's supposed to come across Florida we won't be facing it head on. We'll be on the Backside of the building, so all the wind/etc. Will have to come through the other Townhouse before it kits us. However the Drain for our side of the parking Lot is on ourside of the building. So if the sewers flood, which is quite a possibility, it could raise the water straight into my garage. Good thing is though we haven't had to much rain lately so the levels are somewhat down. And the Core of Engineers has already started draining all the Levies, etc so when the rain does come flooding won't be as bad.

Hopefully it'll die down before it hits us here in west Palm Beach, But since this is the Largest Hurricane to date ever to form in the Atlantic we aren't taking any chance's. It went from being a Tropical storm with winds of 70mph to a Category 5 with Winds in excess of 179mph in less then 24hrs.

I just hope that it disipates just as fast as it grew.

Funny thing is though we'll be going to the beach with the parents for the next 2 days and then heading up there place, On sunday my father and I are going Pheasant hunting. So I guess if you have to wade out a storm this is a pretty good way to do it.

I don't know if I'll be checking in before we leave as we are unplugging everything and taking the computer's with us. But I wanted to let you guys know that we aren't going to risk staying, and that we'll be at my parents place in South Carolina. They say power maybe down here in West Palm for probably a week, so I'm not sure when I'll be checking back in. But I'll keep you guys posted as best I can.

Good luck, and hopefully you don't have any (or much) damage done to your property. :)

Get that car appraised before you leave.

and get flood damage insurance...

Re: Hurricane Wilma

I have no insurance on my Eclipse. I'd drive it to South Carolina but with the Cracked Valve cover leaking oil, I'd have to probably stop every couple hours to refill the oil.

it's already thunderstorming here and some of the streets are flooding, not good. I just hope that the slope up hill into the Garage is big enough to keep the water out. or if it does come in the car will be high enough so water doesn't damage the car.

i hope that's not stopping you. unless it's cracked in half and doesn't bolt down anymore, then maybe, yeah. a little oil here and there is better than having a flattened car in a tree 100 miles from where it was parked.

Hope everything goes well and it dies down by the time it gets to FL. Cozumel and Cancun are getting cat 4 as we speak.

Its nuts to think about that little island getting hit by a massive hurricane when there is really no high ground to go to. We stayed on the island last March and it was nice but there is no high ground and I dont know where 20 inches or more of rain is going to go?

My parents used to have a time share in Cozumel.. that category 4 will wipe that island off the face of the map... the only buildings that are new on that island are the hotels of which there is probably only 4... The rest where build very poorly and a long time ago. From what I saw on the news the eye actaully went right over Cozumel. I feel real bad for that place. It was the 2nd best Scuba Diving in the world besides the Great Barrier Reef. I hope the reef didn't get wrecked, cause that's basically Cozumels only source of income (tourism) and most tourists go there to dive.

The island has really developed in the last few years. There are over 25 hotels on the island now and it was pretty nice and well built. Everything was conrete and stucco, so I think the stuctures will last, but everything else will be gone.... Man I wanted to go back this March again!

well I hope all of your stuff is surviving ok!
My parents are big divers and have gone to cozumel alot... they tosted the old cozumel a few days ago with friends because they agreeded that there won't be much left. Though they said the diving is great but with all the people it has been torn up some and it isn't nearly as nice as other places like bonair.
good luck,
Stuart

I haven't been to Cozumel in probably 5-6years. But prior to that we went every year for 6years straight.
