new exh manifold, check it out

http://members.cox.net/metalstuff/manifold2.jpg http://members.cox.net/metalstuff/manifold3.jpg "Just finished this up yesterday then thrashed like a mad man to get if bolted up in time for the car to make the Hot Import Nights show yesterday. Manifold is constructed from all 304 type stainless steel with huge 2" runners then polished for the bling factor. In the pictures below you can see the manifold it replaced. The old one was by South Florida performance something or other and constructed from mild steel then coated. Said manifold was the second one on the car and I've repaired probably 10+ cracks (no joke) in both of them. If any one with a DSM is interested in one of these polished or not just let me know. I made a jig so I can easily reproduce it. It's set up for a T3 flange but I can also accommodate a stock flange with my jig. wink.gif Enjoy, Brett" http://www.metalmanfab.com/ he posted this up on a local AZ board. i've seen some of his other work in person and was impressed so i thought i'd share :) |

...and on Tuners. Definitely nice work though! This is on the AWD Spyder, correct? |
Re: new exh manifold, check it out

Re: new exh manifold, check it out
Man, those pipes come together at really poor angles at the collector. They point towards each other instead of down into the turbo. That is going to hurt perfomance. It is pretty though! It should also be 321 stainless, not 304.

Re: new exh manifold, check it out
That is a very nice peice of work. Hope it holds together, no one can seem to make a good aminifold that will hold together without cracking eventually.
For a second I thought you made it and then I would be really impressed! |
Re: new exh manifold, check it out
I would have closed my shop up if FloppyHead made that!!

Re: new exh manifold, check it out
I like Shearer's manifolds. They use more curvature in the runners to get a smooth transition into the collector. Plus the wastegate comes off the full collector instead of runners 1 and 4 as on the one in the pictures. Now if I could just afford one.

Re: new exh manifold, check it out
304SS? So it should crack just as much as the mild steel SFP manifold. Aren't 2" runners a bit of overkill?
|
Re: new exh manifold, check it out
i just talked to Brett. he said he built it out of 304 because it was within the price range the customer wanted. he would have no problem making it out of 321, the materials cost (and thus price) goes up a good margin. :)

Re: new exh manifold, check it out
arent the runners in a tubular mani supposed to be as close to equal in length hence some of the cool designs of some of them, It looks like the two inside runners are quite shorter in length then the outside ones.

Re: new exh manifold, check it out
Several good points, even one by Tom! 2" runners are going to hurt velocity and the #2&3 runners should go towards the front of the car to help even out the lengths, although that isn't as important in a turbo car as it is an NA car.
