Eprom ECU Q's

I have a MD193298 Eprom ECU. Vfaq says ?/91-?/?? - MD193298 Federal AT FWD. It came out of a 90 galant gsx AWD which had an automatic transmission with a 91 eclipse gsx motor in it with a manual transmission swap. Also the eprom chip says dual image 80/55 680cc. There is also a wire coming off of the pin on the chip that was grounded on the car. Can I use this ECU on a 92 plymouth laser turbo MT AWD? If not is there anything I can do so that I can use it?

Sounds like it has been chipped. My guess would be 680cc injectors. And possibly a 8K rev limiter with a 5500 stutter box but I don't know. And I don't know what's up with that ground wire. You should be able to use it in your laser if you get a stock or modified (if you have any mods that would make a modded chip useful). Or you could get 680cc injectors. Any mods done to your car or is it all stock?

Throw it in there and find out. But you will need that size injectors or alternate fuel control to lean it out a bunch if using 450's.

I will have the 680's, a super side mount, afc2, 2gmas, 255lph fuel pump, and afpr, all from the same car. Is there any way I can find out what exactly it is chipped for besides the 680's?

You could have someone check the well known areas of the chip for changes, but it is possible that there could be more done or some of the code totally moved to different address locations like TMO used to do, to make it hard to figure out. You could just have someone reburn the chip with the settings you want also.

I've seen a few people say they would burn a basic chip for $20/$30. I have a burner somewhere that's still packed from the move. Once I find it I'll hunt down a tuning program, or just program in hex and burn my own chips. Several different people on the board can hook you up with a chip burn.

Where can you get blank chips? Can you get them locally or just online?

Sounds like the used a larger EPROM and just grounded the top address lines. If you do it this way, you can use multiple images, its basically a hack way of making it possible to change code on the fly.

If you want chips, buy them from Digikey, they are $1.14 part#AT27C256R-70PI.I have about 50 if you want to pick some up.

^^With him.

Only half of the stock eprom is written to, so even with its small size of 64k, you could still get multiple images onto it. You can get the eprom in the same pin configuration and just ground 1 or 2 pins to jump to a whole different image.
