New Magnus Race Manifold

Just got this bad boy, interesting design. Flanged for my Q45 TB, and I'm also putting in the new 1600cc injectors. If this doesn't get me into 10's at 140+ I don't know what will!

As far as the manifold goes, the welding was exceptional. I wish it would have had more port work done to the plenum and TB area, we smoothed out the TB area, but cannot get into the plenum to smooth out two large obstructions to the airflow where the two main pieces meet. For $1000 I guess I just expected perfection lol. Hopefully the results will be worth it!

That is nice. I hope it, gets you to 10s, that would be awsome. Good luck.

When did that design come out? What are the specs of your head?

Wow! that's alot of fucking money! My Magnus was $650 and i was sick about that spendature. Fuck 10's that baby better get you 9's. :)

Re: New Magnus Race Manifold

We'll look into 9's next season ;) But yeah if you go to magnus' site they released a new race spec manifold. Here is the quote from the website, actually the only info I have found is on the home page and scroll down to May 10th when it was released:

Our standard manifold has become the industry standard, Proving to make over 40hp to the wheels on street cars and race cars alike. Our Race Machines have been testing these desings for the last few seasons. Now we have brought our custom one off pieces to production. This style intake was designed for the high revving motors that spend the better part of their time above the 8000 RPM range. Variations of the Race manifold have tested to be able to improve engine breathing up to 10,500 RPM. The Race Intake features our original CNC velocity stack design and spherical endcaps. It makes better use of the plenum size and air distribution, by feeding all 4 runners AT ONCE from the bottom of the intake, along the entire length of the plenum.

Haven't heard of anyone other than Marco himself running it?

And as far as my head goes, stock in terms of porting, which will be changing over the winter. Crower valve springs, retainers, and most importantly 64415 Race Spec cams. I finally get to see this 2.4 make some power over 7000 rpms!

Look for some results October 22nd at Cedar Falls...

Are you planning on sticking with the Crower springs and retainers?

For $1000, I'd want to see some dyno results before ordering along with not having any sort of post-delivery comment like this arise:

Then again the AMS manifold has proven itself in a rather quick manner considering it is now "7's" worthy, but anyways....

To each his own, hope things work out well for ya and you put down the times you're hoping for Chris!

$1000 is a lot, but the new AMS one is around the same price. My Magnus was something like $400, but mine is a piece of shit that doesn't even have runners that line up correctly.

Are you going to run nitrous on the 22nd?

v8klla 10-14-2005 11:34 AM

Re: New Magnus Race Manifold

No nitrous until next season...

As far as the AMS manifold running 7's, thats what I had originally thought as well. I was going to go with the AMS until they treated me like a child and told me that they couldn't use a Q45 flange in any way shape or form. Magnus won my business through his customer service.

And for future reference, I called AMS and asked for the same manifold that shep runs, they straight up told me that it is a one off piece. The one they sell to "normal people" has a much smaller plenum and is very different from the one shepherd runs based on the position of his engine which allows for longer runners and a larger plenum. So if you expect to run 7's with their "normal" manifold, good luck to you ;)

On the other hand, Marco saw gains on his car with this manifold, and I'll remind everyone that he ran low 9's no nitrous with his "normal" manifold.

Proofs in the pudding, get to the track.
Pretty manifold though ;).

Damn, I like pudding! Are you gonna have anyone video taping on the 22nd?

flow doesn't matter.

Just curious, what's the big deal about the Q45 flange?

TB is cheap, huge, and doesn't break throttle plates. they are gonna be like 2.4 blocks pretty soon here, prices are gonna rocket i think.

Re: New Magnus Race Manifold

i better get one then

I thought flow doesn't matter? ;)

And yeah Q45 TB = 3.5" of fun

There will definately be some video taping on the 22nd too...

Re: New Magnus Race Manifold

Looks like a direct take-off of an HKS design from 3-4 years ago. Supposedly works very well in certain applications. For $1000 I'd expect it to change plugs for me between runs as well. :D

Ordering the same manifold Shep has wouldn't do you any good anyways. His was obviously thought out using his kind or airflow numbers and all that jazz. Except for Brent, I doubt if *anybody* else is pushing that kind of air.
