Is My Car F'd?
1 Attachment(s)
So I finally got my car working and drove it around a bit. as I was coming home My car was making a loud clunking noise. So by orders of SleepyDSM I pulled the oil pan. When I drained the oil I notices Problem 1, The oil looked mitallic silver(a nice color for a car I might add). So I went on pulling the pan. When The pan was out I fished through the bottom of the pan and found some pretty big metal shavings. Then I went through the oil with my hands and came up with some more. There is a pic of the metal that came out(No the dime did not come out I thought that might help with sizing). Now this metal is REALLY light weight and is NOT magnetic if that helps at all. I visually inspecected the shortblock and most everythign looks good. I did notice on the front(of car) BS bearing may be gone. The BS are gone But it seems like the bearing I put in there may be gone. I really cant tell. Can anyone help me out here. Could this TOTALLY Fuck my car up? What should I do? Thanks for the help guys!

Re: Is My Car F'd?
in short...yeah your fucked.
Start tearing it apart, hopefully the crank survived. |
Re: Is My Car F'd?
Crankwalk? Those seem like some awefully large pieces of metal.
|
Re: Is My Car F'd?
HOW the hell did he get metal in there? What came off?????
|
Re: Is My Car F'd?
Its a 6 bolt. How would it fuck up the crank or anything? Theres no room for metal to get inbetween.

Re: Is My Car F'd?
What's your engine specs? Stock? Built? Milage?
|
Re: Is My Car F'd?
Stock Rebuilt. 500 miles on rebuild. Topline rebuild kit. Mitsu BS Removal stuff. Stock bore. Stock crank. Dont know the milage of the engine before Rebuild.

Re: Is My Car F'd?
It would fuck up the crank because....
The oil pump would pickup the metal/oil combo and evenly distribute it between the new bearings and the crank/rod surfaces. Don't worry, it also sends the metal filled oil up to your head to coat your cams. Usually a balance shaft failure just makes clunks, when it makes a metal/oil combo, the motor suffers. Good luck. Its a bearing that went to the shitter. Start checking to see where it came from. Check your oil pump for excess run out now, check your rods, etc... |
Re: Is My Car F'd?
Why couldnt the bearing from the BS thats not there fall out and fall into the crank area and get all Fucked up? I dont know if its a CS bearing or a rod bearing cuz i cant see how that would come out cuz its such a tight fit.

Have you done anymore diagnosis? Has it been confirmed that a balance shaft bearing is missing? |
Re: Is My Car F'd?
I know. Im crabby and I know alot of people would be like oh he dont know what the fuck he doin. Have not looked at it since. One question that might help me with the diagnos. Where is the oiling hole for the BS on the exhaust side of the engine. The hole I found was at about 5 Oclock when looking from camgear side to tranny side. Cuz I know When I put the bearing in the holes did not line up(As directed in Vfaq). So if thats where the oiling hole is on the block then the bearing is gone. And thanks a bunch for your help it is GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Is My Car F'd?
After all that metal ran through the motor it definately made it's way through the bearings in the turbo. Not that you want to hear this, but the turbo is probably trash now.

Re: Is My Car F'd?
I donno. when I took out my pan And when I took the drain tube off it looked like black oil that came out.

Re: Is My Car F'd?
I've been in the market for a spyder...
|
Re: Is My Car F'd?
The front balance shaft oiling is around the 3 oclock position actually looking at your angle (from the front case side of the motor).
