Pro drag racing crash?

I was just watching SportsCenter on ESPN and they were showing The Ultimate Highlight. In the middle of it they showed a night drag racing event with what looked like pro stock or top fuel cars. The bit that they showed the cars were barely at half track and the car in the left lane took a left hand turn and T-boned the left wall and was on its side. A split second later the car in the left lane T-boned the other car and the car that was already wrecking was ripped in two and the body shattered into hundreds of pieces. Anyone hear anything about this?

Theres, video up, I'll see if I can find it quick.

Both drivers survived, but one is still in the Hospital with a bruised heart, the other was release almost immediately.

Its amazing how well designed there chassis are. They can take a hell of a lot, and destroy the entire car, and yet have the drivers area stay in tact rather well. Safety is amazing in those.

A top fuel dragster is safer then any car out on the road if you can believe that. :D drag cars rock and I hope that guy is alright.

From the story on NHRA.com the driver who was T-boned got out of the wreck under his own power, and both drivers were concious and alert after the crash. Crazy stuff.

Thats insane. It looked like a bomb went off inside the one car. It seems hard to believe that someone could survive that.

T-boned would be an understatement of that crash. Annihilated would probably be a good choice. That's insane that somebody could get away from that alive.

Damn... Its amazing that their injuries were that little. Most high performance race cars (besides nascar) are ment to break away from the driver when they wreck leaving them in nothing but their seat and rollcage. Knock on wood for that guy, insane race!

Yeah, its amazing how CART/F1 cars are designed. I saw a special on it, that every part of the car could break apart, and the driver would still be just fine in the little cacoon of carbon fiber and some other materials that make up the drivers area. Supposively its on the the strongest materials for its thickness ever designed. I don't know what all layers it consists of though. Its carbon fiber and like 4 other things. All very lightweight obviously.

Yeah every year is safer than the previous. Still sitting on a stick on dynamtie though. Don't forget, just last year a top fuel driver got killed.
