Clutch
I have a 98 gsx with a 2900 lbs pressure clutch and I was wondering if it is better off with a 2100 lbs? Since my tranny went out on me I was thinking about putting in a new clutch.

Re: Clutch
How about a 2600 instead?

Re: Clutch
I just installed an ACT 2100 with a Horse Power Freaks feramic disk. The disk got really good reviews from the owner of the world's fastest 3S. Only question is if 2100 is enough or if I should have gone with the 2600. I guess I'll find out next Spring.

Lol, I made a combo similar to that for johns talon last season. HPF is a SouthBend Clutch dealer, like us. |
Re: Clutch
The one thing you have to worry about with the feramic discs, is them siezing to the flywheel. It has happened to a few DSM guys. The flywheel you use seems to have a big impact on your chances of it happening also though.

Re: Clutch
ACT 2100 gives almost stock pedal feel and I've seen guys get into the 11's on a 2100. Easier on the tranny too.
In my opinion, you always want the weakest point in your engine-tranny-clutch to be the clutch - much easier and cheaper to fix. |
Re: Clutch
I think the feramic material isn't liking the aluminum flywheels in some instances.

1) they are an act dealer 2) they are an SBC dealer Both of which we are as well, and I know I've combined them before, why wouldn't they? lol. |
Re: Clutch
I had a SBC DXD with Feramic disk and I liked it alot, lower than stock pedal pressure and it was really grabby. I did worry about the seizing problem but I put a few thousand on it before I sold it and never had a problem.

Re: Clutch
You have a 2900? How does the pedal pressure feel on that one :D. I had the 2100 for my second clutch and that one was nice. Only problem with that was that I had to slip it a bit more than the 2600 I have now (good thing? maybe. maybe not). I also got my best 0-60ft on the 2100 but the 2600 is way stronger and never slips unless I make it. Almost every passenger I have in my car bobs their head when I shift...kinda makes me feel like a crappy shifter :(...haha

Re: Clutch
Ok so i have decided that i would want to go with a 2600 instead of a 2100 but the thing is that do i have to get a whole new clutch kit or can i just get teh pressure plate?
|
Re: Clutch
You could just buy the pressure plate, but odds are the disc has some wear on it, might as well replace that as well (and machine the flywheel).

Re: Clutch
Should of listened to me in the first place man. I told you not to get the 2900. 2600 is killer enough on daily driving :D. But anyways it looks like you're down another 300+ dollars added to everything else you still owe money on if you decide to buy a new clutch :P. Word of advice from your friend, don't put yourself into deeper debt just yet if you plan to attend WYOTECH *har* *har*.
