Ignition questions

I have a 90 eagle talon all wheel drive. I have the jdm cyclone motor (91). It is running on 2 cylinders. My question is, i have a 90 ecu and and a 90 coilpack. Will that work with the 1991 motor. It is also throwing a check engine code which i believe was code 44 which is the transistor/ignitor(correct me if im wrong), but before i order one i need to find out if the setup we have is wrong. Should i put all 91 parts in it or all 90 parts.

Put the 90 transistor pack on it too. Did you use the 90 TB and CAS?

I have a spare '90 Transistor that I can let you try, if that helps you any.

The TR from a '91-94 will not plug into the harness on a '90. The plugs are different.

Re: Ignition questions

You can mismatch 90 and 91 ignition parts, the only major difference is the tach signal going to the ECU and guage is inverted

Re: Ignition questions

Your power transitor plugs are different. If you can get a 1991-94 ecu and 1991-94 tansitor and coil will make it easier. Also a less of a headache. You should check out www.4g61t.com for info becasue they do 46g3t swaps in colts and give out a lot of info.

How did you get the power transitor plug to fit the 90 transitor?

Ummmm....his car is a 90? It would be the easiest just to put all the 90 parts on it, which it sounds like he did. Maybe you just have a bad coil pack? Try pulling plugs to see which cylinders are not firing.

Ops. Your right Jet. I saw too many 90 and 91 in it. Stay with all 90 parts.

Re: Ignition questions

Yea it has a new coil pack. And i Ohmed it out to see if for some reson i got ahold of a bad coil pack. The car is not firing on 1 and 4, but the wierd thing is that it isnt lacking spark or air it is lacking fuel. Fuel injectors all ohmed out to the corect spec. It has a new ecu. I also have an Super AFC 2, at first i though that was my problem. I thought maybe i wired it wrong so i rewired using info from v-faq.com and still the same problem. This project was supposed to be a simple jdm motor swap with a few bolt-ons, that should have onlt taken a week or 2 tops. it has now gone on for just of 1 year. i have been haunted with problems. Just to let you know my situation. VERY VERY frustrating. So if anyone can help me by pointers or parts i should throw at this thing. One of my buddies recomended trying a new CAS because when i start it, it will run on all four for like 2 mins then it drops to two cylinders. please any pointers will help at this point. feel free to call me 507 261 5110.
