Bent Rim no fix?
 

I just got back from tires plus and the guy there tells me my rim can't be bent back because it's aluminum. Is this true is there anything I can do? I really don't want to buy new rims.

If so what are some light cheap 17" rims I could get?

There is a shop in Hopkins of of excelsior Blvd that does wheel repair. I cant think of their name though.

Sure. "Tires for less". 763-783-8473. The guys who run the shop are brothers and they do good work for me. Ask for Nauofel or Haythem. Tell thm RK sent you. Or if you like, drop by my place sometime and I can take you - I go there for almost all my shit pretty often.

From my experience with aluminum, wich i have a full shop, any bending of aluminum severely reduces its strength, so if its aready bent and then you bend it back it has really been bent twice and is now weaker than wwhen it wasnt round, so i would personally find a new rim. sorry to rain on the getting it fixed parade, but i think thats a bad idea, unless you want a rim breaking/tire flying off at high speeds.

take a pop can and a soup can of any brand.


cut a small section out of each.

bend the pop can segment in half
bend the soup can segment in half


then repeat a few times. aluminum does not retain nearly as much strength once it's form has been broken. Which is why alot of unibodie designs in accidents are totalled.

I agree with steel and GVR. Aluminum is ductile and as such a problem if shape is distorted to start with.

Precision Wheel in Hopkins fixed one of my TE-37's up nice. Cost about $125-$150 to do it though, so unless those rims cost more than twice that I'd just go with a new rim.
