sell or core my ECU?
I have a 90 FWD turbo Eprom ECU that burned out yesterday. I bought a refurbished one off ebay and if i send the core back they'll give me $100. I have a couple questions:
1. How much could I get for this? 2. Can I take the Eprom chip out? 3. Should I just send it as the core? thanks for the help -Bill |
Re: sell or core my ECU?
Might as well just send it in as a core. I couldnt see you ever getting more than 150 for it anyways. The only guy on here I know of that would possibly be interested in it fell of the face of the earth.

Re: sell or core my ECU?
A '90 EPROM? Didn't Iceman just sell his for $250 firm?
|
Re: sell or core my ECU?
Did you get another 90 ECU? A 91-94 isn't a direct swap. The 90 EPROMs seem to be quite rare, but I don't know if anyone would want a broken one.

Re: sell or core my ECU?
I did get another 90 ECU but it's not eprom.

Re: sell or core my ECU?
Actually. What's wrong with it? Capacitors? If it's the capacitors, keep it and replace them. How much did you pay for a refurbed one? I sold a 90 AWD 5 spd ecu for like 75 dollars a couple months back. Cap replacement costs like 20-50 dollars. Or do it yourself..

Re: sell or core my ECU?
I paid 200 for the refurbed ne but will get 100 back when i send in the core. Can i take the eprom chip out?

Re: sell or core my ECU?
Hell if it is just capacitors I'll give you $100 for it because it is an EPROM.
|
Re: sell or core my ECU?
I believe it's just capacitors
|
Re: sell or core my ECU?
If it's the capacitors, you could get them replaced and sell it for 250 :)
What went wrong with it? Did the capacitors leak onto the board? How bad? How do you know what's wrong? If it's the capacitors, just cancel your order and replace them. Use it. Makes sense right? |
Re: sell or core my ECU?
Do you know someone that would replace them for me? It went out while I was driving, it smoked and now when i start it it idles for 2 seconds then dies. I can't get it open right now to see what the exact problem is because two of the screws are stripped on top.

Re: sell or core my ECU?
pull it out some how and check. Eric metzger would usually do it, but he hasn't been around. All you need is someone that is good with a soilder iron I think. Ask aroun and make a post. I'd think computer places would know what to do.. they work with small parts that require soildering. I imagine you could get the caps from mitsu? Good luck man.
Eric did mine, costed me 20 dollars and it took 2 days. |
Re: sell or core my ECU?
DSMChips/Keydriver could do it I'm sure.
|
Re: sell or core my ECU?
If I knew what caps needed to be replaced I could do it. Soldering is the easy part.
|
Re: sell or core my ECU?
It is not icemans. He sold his to someone else and his was good. If I was you, I would keep it, send it in to the dsmlink guys or anyone who fixes ecus and resell it for more. BTW, you got ripped off badly on the 90 non eprom ecu. Taking the chip out doesn't do squat.
