Tuning question
My buddies car is getting a FMIC and 3 inch o2 elim turbo back exhaust installed right now.
Big16g, 255 fuel pump regulated, 550's, 150+ comp in all 4, eprom ecu etc. Right now, It is tuned off the eprom ( chipped for 255. 550s and 16g). My question is, if we turn up the boost and tune off of the SAFC, do we have to do anything to the ECU? |
Re: Tuning question
Nope, just get a datalogger so you can check the knock. So how did they chip it for a fuel pump?

Re: Tuning question
The ECU just knows, okay? Gosh...

Re: Tuning question
This is interesting. I don't really know about the chipping process, but did you socket the ECU to chip it? I'm assuming from a hardware standpoint that you'd have to let the ECU know somehow. I'm not trying to pick bones here, just ASKING, dude. I dont know how you'd chip the ECU for the turbo and fuel pump, so do you mind sharing the info?
hey, JET, would the ECU have to be chipped for the mods? Not sure about this. Interesting point though - never thought about it. |
Re: Tuning question
The only thing that really matters that gets changed when you burn a different chip is to compensate for the bigger injectors. It helps when tuning, allows you to stay closer to 0 on the fuel adjustments of an AFC, or even DSMlink.

Re: Tuning question
RK, yes you must have an Eprom ECU, then socket it to accept the chip.
You can raise the redline, stutterbox, get rid of fuel cut and compensate for bigger injectors (among other things), but the ECU doesn't care about the turbo size or fuel pump. |
Re: Tuning question
Thanks guys. Now I get it - as long as the ECU understands the fuel flow/delivery, the turbo and fuel pump are all a function if that.
Do all EPROM ECU's come socketed or does someone do that? How much for that? Which year onwards do dsms have the EPROM ECU? |
Re: Tuning question
Do some searching in the archives. This is a tech thread so don't take it off topic.

Re: Tuning question
I have no idea how it works. I was just told the ECU was setup for the current setup in the car.

Re: Tuning question
all that would be different for tuning with a chipped ECU is that the fuel compensation would be 0 or closer than if you were tuning with 450s.

Re: Tuning question
Actually if it is chipped correctly it will keep you in the correct timing maps vs. just turning down the fuel with a SAFC.

Re: Tuning question
Who set up the chip? Lightning, Keydriver, DSMChips, TMO?
