A 1992 Coil Pack and Transistor in a 1990

Ok, here's my little story. Early Febuary my waterpump went out. So I decided to rebuild the entire engine because I didn't know when the timing belt or antyhing else was changed. Well, I finally bought and installed all the parts I neded. Before I started rebuilding the engine, It didn't have spark. I ordered a coil pack, a power transistor and overnight shipping from some guy in Cali. After 3 weeks of emailing back and forth, my parts still are not here. My friend Jake has a 1992 Eagle Talon N/T 2.0 and I have a 1990 TSI. I found a website that shows how to use the 92 CP and Power TR in a 90. What I was wondering is the N/T CP and Power TR different than the turbo? Or can I "barrow" a few parts from my friends car? I looked at the wire colors and they are different, but that doesn't really mean anything to me. This is the last thing I need to get my car on the road and I'm getting impatient!

I know there's definitely differences between the 90 and 92 parts, but there shouldn't be any difference from turbo to NT for these.

Ok. I guess I'll try it than. The coil pack from the 92 has a black, white and red wire. The connector for the power tr doesnt have a red wire is why I was so hesitant to use them. I didn't want to ruin my rebuilt engine.

The worst it will do is not fire.

The colors of the wires on the 92 coil pack are different only on the unit itself. The main harness has the same colors. So I hooked it up and upon stripping back a few of the wires, I noticed alot where black, like a little electrical fire happened. I tried starting it and of course still no spark. My question is, where should I start investigating these burnt wires? Does anyone know what voltage each of the wires should get so I can check with a DMM? Almost done with the car, yet so far away. DSM should stand for "Doesn't Start or Move" :D

Hey just call the dealer and ask. Try calling 2-3 dealers (just to ensure they're not jerking you around) and you'll get the answer you need.

Actually you could also try the tech forum and do a search. That might help you too.

We have the best dealer anyone could ask for right here on these forums, better read before you start ripping on them too much: http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=55

yeah, I know hes on here, but he understands this crap. I'm talking about the dealers who just sell you parts because its what they think you need and dont know what the hell a 4G63 is.
Next on the list of possibilities is the CAS correct? I was told they are also the same (from N/T and turbo), could be wrong.

I got it all hooked up, but nothing. I'm ordering 1990 parts this thursday. Basiclly everything that has to do with the ignition but the ecu.

Re: A 1992 Coil Pack and Transistor in a 1990

The power TR wont work if you have a 90 ecu. The best way to do it is two but it new because if you pull it from someone elses car its gonna happen again way sooner than you want it two. With the 90 ecu you need all 90 ignition parts.
