The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up

Get final word on just how muchI can spend on monday and then we will see what Steve says about the the odds of getting a nice one from an auction but this one is in the St Louis area. Listed at 12895.00 and would take 12k even.
It's a 2002 with 71k on it. Fully loaded. EPA Fuel Economy: City: 23 – 24 Highway: 30 – 31 Available Engines: 145-hp, 2.0-liter I-4 Available Transmissions: 4-speed automatic w/OD Vehicle Overview A new Sport Package is available for Infiniti’s 2002 entry-level sedan, which went on sale in March 2001. The Sport group includes a body-colored grille, European-style 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather-appointed interior and silver gauges. Infiniti is Nissan’s luxury brand, and the front-drive G20 shares certain components, including its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, with the Nissan Sentra. Early in 2002, a rear-drive G35 high-performance premium sports sedan with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine is expected to debut. Based on the Nissan Skyline supercar offered only in Japan, the styling of the G35 is thought to be influenced by the big Q45 sedan, as well as by Infiniti’s XVL concept vehicle. Expected in the spring of 2002 as a 2003 model, the G35 will edge aside the existing front-drive G20. This change will give Infiniti a stronger challenger to the BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS 300 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan. Exterior With its similar shape to the Nissan Sentra and its compact dimensions, the G20 four-door sedan is 177.5 inches long — about 3 inches longer than the Honda Civic sedan. The G20 rides a 102.4-inch wheelbase, measures 66.7 inches wide and stands 55.1 inches high. The G20t touring model is easily distinguished by its standard rear spoiler. Interior The automaker claims the G20 has a five-passenger capacity, but its rear seat lacks sufficient legroom for most adults to fit comfortably. Cloth upholstery is standard, and leather is optional. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, a Bose sound system with cassette and CD players, remote keyless entry, a theft-deterrent system, and power windows, locks and mirrors. Cargo volume amounts to 13.5 cubic feet. Under the Hood A 145-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mates with a standard five-speed-manual gearbox or an optional four-speed-automatic transmission. Antilock brakes and side-impact airbags for the front seats are standard. Driving Impressions Criticisms of the G20 have centered on performance, and it’s true that the four-cylinder cannot match the vigor of a V-6 engine. For that reason, a model with a bigger engine would be welcome. When passing and merging, the G20 suffers from an undeniable shortage of strength, though proper shifting with a manual transmission makes higher-speed performance passable. Along that line, the top-notch gearbox and clutch ranks as one of the best, shifting easily and precisely and permitting eager yet gentle takeoffs. Nevertheless, the G20’s handling skills might just outweigh any lack in the power department. Taut, balanced handling is this sedan’s principal talent. Ride comfort could be better through urban pavement, but it’s great on the highway. An absorbent suspension produces a satisfying experience, coupled with excellent stability and control. Crispness during cornering also is a bonus. Construction quality is particularly solid and tight, too. Considering the price charged for a G20, it’s a little hard to get past that performance penalty. |

Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
Looks pretty good, KBB says about $13,4xx for suggested retail. if you can get it for 12 I'd say its a pretty decent deal. :)

Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
I wouldn't buy it personally, just a rebadged sentra
I dunno, maybe it's cuz I'm like 6'4" but I just don't really like 4 door cars with poor rear seat room |
Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
That's also a handful of miles for something that is only 3 years old. But still reliable and should get at least 150k out of it.

Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
My friend's mom has a late-90's G20 and loves the thing, plus they've had no issues with it to speak of. I do know the 02ish Sentras have a lot of little problems and aren't exactly sturdy, I'm not sure if that carries over at all though (my guess is it will). Read the user reviews on Edmunds.com, those seem to be fairly honest and intelligent.
|
Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
Yeah, I've spent a lot of time on cars.com and edmunds. The G20s seem to get better reviews compared to the Sentras and frankly it shares some of the stuff but that more luxury, comfort feel I am going for just doesn't appeal to me in the Sentra.
I'm still looking, still not 100% on anything but this is now the top of my lists. |
Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
Sounds good. It looks like you're doing a ton of research so I'm sure whatever you end up with will be the right choice for you. Personally, when I replace the Contour with a different winter car next year it'll probably be with a 02-03 Protege ES or 01-03 Civic EX.

Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
Just an FYI, just about every year of the G20 is always VERY highly rated for used car reliability. I'd say go for it.

Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
That is one clean car. Damn!!!
|
Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
the car is equiped with the SR20de engine. can handle over 400whp. it is like the 4g63 stoutness wise.
i've been pondering selling my svt and one of the possible replacements is a late 90's early 0's G20. You can piece together a turbo setup for under 1500 bones. i dunno about 02, but the 99 that I was looking at. Was more than stout enough to handle 200-220whp. Which is what a t25 bolted on with 6-7psi would make. to me that would be a great car. The infinity cars are UBER nice inside. |
Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
If you plan on keeping the car for a long time and you like it, that's not a bad deal. If you plan on trading it in within the few years, you might want to pass on this one and buy one with lower miles. Once it gets up close to 100,000 miles it's gonna be much harder to sell. Nice car though.

Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
That is one nice thing about imports, especially the ones perceived as being extremely reliable, they don't decrease in value much as miles go up. The Infinity should be fine with some miles on it.

Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
Chances of a G20 getting anything done performance wise is slim to none. lol

Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
I used to have a '95 G20t that I bought back in '98 or '99. It was a great car. A little heavy and underpowered to be considered quick or nimble, but still a very nice car. I loved the leather seats in mine. The touring model comes with a few sportier things like big side bolsters in the seats, a wing, and I think it had slightly stiffer suspension. Unfortunately I sold that car to buy a *gasp* DSM. Otherwise I might still be driving it today.
Oh yeah, plastic wood trim does not look good. If you can find one without it, I would go for that instead. |
Re: The infinity G20 I'm thinking about picking up
Hmmm... For that kind of money, you could buy a pretty nice AWD DSM. If you don't mod the crap out of a DSM, they'll last a long time. ;)
The G20 is a nice choice too. later, Curt |
