Good Information

I know I have probably asked questions like this a lot, but I am wondering, SPECIFICALLY, if you guys know of any good places (Books, websites, etc.) where I can find information about DSM's. More a long the lines of about the engine, everything about it...

Re: Good Information

www.dsmtuner.com
www.dsmtalk.com
www.vfaq.com

Besides this site, those are the only other sites i've ever used. I also have the original 3 volume factory manuals for my car so I would consider that the best paper-material source. It's by far better than any chiltons or haynes manual.

however there is going to be a bit of a difference between dsm and your car, especially if you don't have 4g63 engine in yours. I'd check out one of the Dodge Neon sites for engine specs..

Re: Good Information

I don't think you will find all that much about your car unless you search in a nhon turbo forum since most of the dsm ones are turbo related.

Ha, thats so sad. I hate the sound of that, though it is the truth. Well how about this.. cars in general. I know a bit about cars, but not enough to keep up with most of my friends, emphasis on most, and by most I mean some. I guess it's hard because I don't limit myself to one sort of vehicle (be it domestic/import, V8/V6/4 Cyl, Truck/Car/SUV, Big Block/Small Block, etc), so while I was pretty good with Mustangs and other things of the sort, as far as working on it, I suck with imports. Plus, its a bit hard when you don't know what everything does. This is all what I want to know. I want to know every little function, which I know is probably asking a lot, but I just want to know.

Re: Good Information

Pick up a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual. Those books will teach you how a system works and how to troubleshoot it. Once you know theory of how systems work, you can apply it to most makes/models of cars. Good luck.

I have a Chiltons for my car, and it goes over things for both turbo and N/A cars.

How do you have such an interest in cars? I hate touching cars unless I have to. I never even tryed anything mechanical on a car before we got these stupid dsms. Well, maybe a few things I had done before these but not many, and now I need to work on it more than I drive it.

www.howstuffworks.com

it gives you a general idea about how motor work, and other things.

Its not specific to DSM's but theres some good info on there.

Re: Good Information

I would recommend the N/A forum on Tuners as there are some very knowledgeable members on there when it comes to N/A related issues/questions:

That's one of my favorite sites, and I would highly recommend it.

How do I have such an interest in cars? I don't know. I supposed because when I am working on a car, even if I'm just learning what I'm doing, I feel very relaxed. Its like, some thing about being in it is relaxing, because then I dont have to deal with bullshit from anyone else, just the car ;) which I am ok with because most of the time, I like cars more than people!

I think that "how stuff works" website is probably exactly what I was going for. Thanks!

Re: Good Information

seriously, get a chiltons or hanes and just read the shit out of it. As bernie said, systems are systems. Every car IS different, but most cars work off of the same principle. If you read through an entire book, you may not know what your doing, but when it comes time to take care of something, you will have a lot better idea of what your doing and what youre working with!

I still say go to www.2gnt.com . It's a site dedicated to 2g Non Turbos.

Yah, but I already said I didn't want to devote my learning to my car. Yes, I love my car, and and yeah I want to know about it, but I want to know about all cars.

Just tear into your car and figure it out. Where stuff goes. What it controlls. Thats what I did. Before I had no clue what engines did or the parts of them. Then I rebuilt a 6Bolt and put it in my car and now I feel like I know 100X more then I did. Thats at least the way I work.
